TEDx Talk

We live in a time where people are looking for validation more then ever. Vulnerability is a term that I’m researching. How do we learn to embrace our vulnerabilities and imperfections so that we can engage in our lives from a place of self-love? How do we accept ourselves and others? What happends when we have real attention? How do people respond afterwards when they've seen the photos? When do we stop resisting, and start letting go? How do we surrender?

‘Surrender’ is one of the most important topics that can be understood on one’s road to healing. Becoming aware of what kind of relationship you have created with your body is a fundamental key for change. Learning to tune into your inner dialogue offers you space to change.

Every day we have to choice to be in resistance or surrender to that resistance by letting go. Surrender is not weakness, it is the most powerful experience that puts us in touch with our true self.

When we have an inaccurate view of ourselves or the outside world, there is a dissonant and unsettling disparity between our internal self and the external world. Therefore I believe it is important we create a healthy self- image. One that doesn’t have to rely on outside validation, but esteem that comes from inside out.

I was curious to see if I could capture the intimacy and raw beauty I see in people. We seem to sometimes put on a mask in front of the camera, because we want to show what we think is our best self. I love the expression “To let your guard down” — A very old expression, it means to relax your defensive posture, which would leave you vulnerable. It conveys peaceful intent. It's taking a risk, hoping the person facing you will find it persuasive enough to lower his guard as well. The moment where this takes place are the moments where we can truly connect.

With this project I hope to reach many people by spreading the message about the importance of surrender, and embracing one’s vulnerability and imperfections.
